ABOUT DR. JUDY CLYMAN:
I have been in practice as a clinical psychologist for over 35 years. I work with individuals and couples, ranging in age from young adult to the elderly. I earned my PhD from the Fielding Institute. My way of practicing is informed by Relational Psychoanalysis and Attachment Theory.
This perspective values the role of individual development through the life span and examines patterns of thinking, feeling and relating that are often outside our awareness, yet affecting our lives nonetheless. Individual development takes place within family relationships. Awareness of attachment styles enriches our understanding of behavioral patterns and interpersonal interactions.
I use mind/body approaches, such as EMDR and Positive Psychology within my theoretical orientation to treat trauma and support self-actualization. My practice philosophy which guides my clinical work and is expressed in my research thesis and dissertation, is the centrality of relationships. The quality of the therapeutic relationship enhances work with all patients, regardless of the specific technique.
